While attending Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s as students we experienced a very strong Catholic tradition. Whether it was in your dorm, the classroom or in everyday life, religious beliefs were present in how we treated each other on campus. Those principals and values still hold true as alumni/ae.
Here in NYC, continuing practicing those values is one of the core activities that the group supports in a way that is consistent with who we are as LGBT individuals.
GALA ND/SMC NYC Club is partnering with The Church of Saint Paul The Apostle to provide an opportunity to be part of a Catholic community in NYC that respects everyone’s individuality and welcomes LGBT people into their ministry. Saint Paul is a welcoming church that prides itself on being inclusive of many different groups. The church is located at the corner of Columbus Avenue & West 60th St.
In addition to their regular community, St Paul’s also has a unique group called “Out@ St Paul”. Out @ St Paul (OSP) is the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Ministry of their parish at St. Paul the Apostle in New York City, which seeks to engage our Catholic faith through service to our community, social activities and the exploration of Catholic spirituality. There are several Notre Dame alumni who are actively involved in the group’s leadership.
We encourage members of our alumni community in NYC who are looking to continue with their spirituality to be members of Saint Paul and to participate in the various events and activities held by Out @ St Paul.
The mass attended by this group is the 5:15pm Sunday Evening Service. After mass, the group informally gathers in the back of church for a few minutes of social activity. About once a month, they have an formal “supper club” where people go out to eat together.
Volunteer Opportunity – The club is currently seeking a spirituality committee lead. If interested, contact club co-chair Edward Augustine, Esq. at email@example.com.
